James COVINGTON, Private. 14th North Carolina Infantry, Company C.

Resides in Montgomery County, enlisted in Wake County on 16 July 1862 at age 25. SICK on 5 Sept 1862. Company Muster states “thought to be dead” Roll of Honor indicated that he was “lost” during the Sharpsburg campaign of 1862. Since North Carolina men were dying so fast during the Sharpsburg campaign his remains probably rest in some mass grave with other men with whom he was fighting.
